Project Weak Link began as a quick shock and ball joint job for this clean 1965 Mustang Coupe.  It has since turned into a no limits build with absolutely no weak links.

Dennis Brinson has been an amazing customer as well as the very FIRST for MMI. When Mike was a little guy he used to spend his days after school playing in Mr. Brinson’s 64.5 Mustang at his dads shop. When it was time to build his own 1966 coupe, Mike remembered Mr. Brinson’s simple yet potent Mustang. Refined wheel fitment, simple lines coupled with the vintage interior that was accented with a euro touch of the early eighties. This look wasn’t over done and what was interesting was it still looked good after all the years. Project Weak Link was the inspiration of Ol’ Blue, which in a way means that all the people that have fallen in love with Ol’ Blue owe a thanks to Mr Brinson.

Since then Dennis has embarked upon a never ending journey of updating his red coupe. He saw what had been going on with Ol’ Blue he was re-inspired. In his build he wanted to grasp the essence of the machine while having absolutely n0 weak links. In his words he could go out and buy a new Corvette and have all his biological sensors muted and go really fast. Or he can take his Project Weak Link Mustang and accentuate all the things that make the experience. Check out his progress and enjoy!

Mike and Brandon DeFazio’s Pro-touring 1969 Ford Mustang Fastback setup with MMI suspension. This car is a beautiful show quality representation of a 69 Mustang.

Mike and his son Brandon came to Mike Maier years ago wanting to build a nice 1969 Ford Mustang Fastback to hit up the local autocrosses with. As the concept was taking shape the Dafazio’s decided on the rocker arm suspension that Mike Maier was known for. During the build Mike Maier created his own company in Livermore, Ca (Mike Maier Inc). Mike and his son followed Maier to complete the build.

The front  of his Ford Mustang Fastback was outfitted with a MOD 1 coil over system coupled with MMI’s power steering package. The Defazio’s had Mike Maier install a street style 6 point cage with a removable seat belt bar. The car left Mike’s hands and went into the Dafazio’s garage for the rest of its build. Mike Dafazio would occasionally stop by Mike’s shop and say “ I think it will be nicer than we were planning on”. This went on for some time and out came this piece of work; Easily one of the nicest projects that we have been involved with. We are proud to be part of their journey, great job guys!

This 1965 Ford Mustang GT350 is one fast street/track car.  Setup with a full Blacktop package, this car handles great at the track, yet is still a fun to cruise to a car show.

Our customer Nate bought this beautiful 1965 Ford Mustang GT350 from a previous track day driver, but the catch was it had not ran in a long time. Promptly dropping the Mustang off with MMI, Nate asked the MMI crew to do what was needed to get it up to date and ready for the track again.  When it was torn into, the Mustang was impressive.  As Mike said, “It’s like a time capsule from 1992”. The car had lots of neat little tricks that only a true track enthusiast would know about. Nevertheless, it had been a long time since then, and MMI had lots still to do to make up for the last 20 plus years. Nate had already upgraded the cooling system and the fuel system so the chassis was up to us.

Eventually Nate sold the car to its new owner Dave.

Kenny is one of the local bad asses of long island though he will never admit to it. He’ll just greet you with a smile and an honest hand shake. Kenny and Mike met in Columbus, Ohio during the 2010 Good Guys Sponsor Shootout. Since then, Kenny has been a dear friend of the Maier family. His 65 Mustang Coupe is an early version of what we now call the Corkscrew Package and includes one of the first MOD 1 Front Suspension systems we produced. Funny enough, Mike Maier and Kyle Tucker of Detroit Speed welded up the arms together during a visit from Tucker. As a result you’ll find both of their initials stamped on the control arms of this particular kit.

Ken is not shy about using his Mustang, regularly tracking and autocrossing his car at events around the country.
