Tom’s 68 Mustang Fastback
Tom is a longtime Mustang guy and a great competitor in the SCCA autocross world. He is a multi-time National Champion and Driver of Eminence so he knows what he wants and how to get the most out of whatever car he’s wheeling that weekend.
Tom bought this 1968 Fastback from a close family friend and gave this old village bicycle a new life. He wanted to keep the paint a little rough to maintain some of the originality and keep it drivable. The racetrack can be a tough on a car’s finish, and he wanted to make sure it didn’t end up “too pretty” to be usable. Dropping in a crate 363 and a Vintage Air system ensured he would have both the power and drivability he desired.
For chassis and suspension, he turned to MMI. We set him up with our complete Corkscrew package, albeit with a few of Tom’s personal touches. When choosing his Wilwood brakes setup, we went with a lightweight autocross specific rear brake setup and pads, designed to perform their best in the cones. Tom also selected and sourced his own hardware, further complimenting all the great components assembled into this epic car.
